My name is Amber Burkhart and I am so excited to be teaching at WHCS this year! My husband, Tom, and I moved to Florida from South Bend, IN in 2012. We followed the trail of my in-laws, but we whole-heartedly believe that God has a plan for us here. Tom and I have been married since 2012 and are enjoying growing and learning together through our faith. We currently reside in Spring Hill with our two beautiful cats that fill our hearts with so much joy.
Some of the most influential people in my life have been my teachers. I was lucky enough to have some amazing mentors that cared about more than just my academic success. They encouraged me, empowered me, believed in me, and inspired me to believe in myself. My hope is to encourage, empower, and inspire the young people of today.
In the classroom, I want to emphasize the value in being able to speak and write well. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are key components in the foundation to success, no matter your life direction. My focus will be on building the core Language Arts skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and academic language. I will challenge students to expand their vocabulary and to explore the power behind words; and there's no better example of the power of words than the written Word of God!
